Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts created the smiley face in 1963. This image is one of the most recognizable symbols of good will on the planet.

You can learn more about his symbol at the World Smile Day website by clicking here.

Over the years Harvey Ball became concerned about the over-commercialization of his symbol, and and came up with the idea of World Smile Day®.

He thought that we, all of us, should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts and declared that the first Friday in October each year would henceforth be World Smile Day®.

That’s today.

So, today I am pledging to go out and try and find a few things to do that will make people smile. At least I’m going to try and do as much as I can. This darn pandemic is going to make things challenging. But, I’m still gonna try.
