We got a little bit of snow last week.
Okay, we got a lot.
You might even say, we got a TON.
We received more flurries than we’ve had in a few years anyway, and since I live in Canada, that’s saying something.
We got so much snow, in fact, that they closed the schools and asked everyone to work from home.
They even closed a few major highways, which is unheard of here.
So, on Monday night, after a full thirty-six hours of snow, my husband and I decided to go for a walk to see how the neighborhood had fared.
Most nights, the dog and I go for walks together, and we usually head to the lake at the end of our street as I like to say good night to it. But, last week, it was just my hubby and me. I decided the snow was too deep for our ten pound dog.
The sidewalks weren’t plowed when we set out, but the roads had been cleared, so we walked in the middle of the streets. Very few cars were out, so it was quiet, and since most of my neighbors still have their Christmas lights up, they were sparkling against the snow.
When we got closer to the lake, we had to sludge through deep drifts, which went over the top of my boots and got my socks all wet, but the discomfort was more than made up for by the view. Over the water, the city lights were glowing golden in the distance and reflecting off the water and the sparkling snow. It was lovely.
Annnnnd, it was freezing.
So, we didn’t stay long admiring the view. We trudged home pretty quickly.
Since we’re used to snowstorms in my part of the world, the plows and the salters were out all day Monday and all night, too, resulting in the snow being wrestled into less obtrusive places pretty quickly.
Still, on Tuesday morning, because I had to drive through the snow, I was cursing the stuff and the way everyone else was driving in it.
And yes, I think I was also wondering how I ever could have thought snow was lovely.
But honestly, for that evening, it was.
And today, that’s what I’m going to choose to remember—that night.
At least for right now. Because there is more snow being forecasted for this afternoon and evening.
So, yes, I might be cursing the stuff again tomorrow.
But tonight? I think I’m going to go for a walk down to the lake .
And just admire the view for a bit.
