This is an example of sarcasm.

But is it humor?

Maybe? Many people find things that are being said or done at another person’s expense funny.

Is that comedy?

Sort of?

This also begs the question, is it nice?

No. (That’s an easy question to answer.)

So, where does a writer draw the line?

Since I write fiction, I must admit I give myself significant leeway in using sarcasm to make my characters funnier. It’s an easy thing for me to do and still live with myself because the people I’m poking fun at aren’t real. They can be made fun of, taunted, and do stupid things, and no one gets hurt.

I like to think I’m much kinder in real life.

So, yeah, in my books, people make fun of each other and often say things that are out of turn. I sort of follow the guideline that if you can’t say something nice, say something funny.

And if it makes the book more humorous, then it’s a good thing, right? The world needs more laughter.

On that note, remember light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until they speak.

😉 Ba Da Dum.

Onward.

And keep laughing and loving along the way.
