There was a picture on my Facebook feed tonight of flowers growing in the cracks of a concrete sidewalk.
The store attached to it informed me that a pre-school class had dropped seeds in the cracks between the sidewalk and the curb to see what would happen.
And what happened was colorful flowers grew there.
Lots of them.
And they were lovely and cheerful, and they illustrated that beautiful things can flourish in the most unlikely places and under the most challenging of circumstances.
It was a short post, but during these seemingly unending days of the pandemic it was a sentiment that I needed to be reminded of last night.
When people started commenting that the flowers would ruin the sidewalk structurally, several people pointed out that these fragile flower roots were too small to cause any real problems.
Which is good.
So, thank you random Facebook post that showed up on my timeline.
And thank you, young children and teachers, or whoever dropped/planted the seeds.
You made me happier last night.
You also gave me an idea to try myself.
So, watch out, little town that I live in and love. You may have flowers appearing in your sidewalks soon too!
